May 18, 2012: Music fans paid tribute to Donna Summer (aka) “Disco queen,” who died on Thursday aged 63. The cause of death is still undetermined, but sources close to her family, say the star had a rare form of cancer, that maybe attributed to toxic fumes and cloud of smoke that blackened out New York City after the hijacked planes plunged into World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Ms. Summer is remembered as one of disco's biggest stars, with such hits as “Bad girls.” Fans left flowers at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star. A statement from her family said: "Early on this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith.
"While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
R&B singer Mary Blige said on Twitter that Summer, was "truly a game changer", while producer Quincy Jones said her voice "was the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade," and Kylie Minogue described her as "one of my earliest musical inspirations."
